Spirit Legion:

Major responsibilities include research and creation of ter'angreal and angreal, the keeping of the Black Tower's supply of both as well as sa'angreal, research into the nature of saidin and refining male channeling.

Major goals are further research into the creation of items of power by both saidin and saidar in concert.

Spirit Legion works well with the other Legions, and has connections with the Brown Ajah, as well as the White and Gray, despite tension between the Towers.

They have a very 'hands on' approach to their studies, often pursuing fieldwork.

Angreal and ter'angreal 'library cards' are assigned by Captains and above based on need and the scale of the item in question, with higher requiring more permissions.

Brown Ajah:

Major responsibilities include 'hard research' into the mechanics of saidar, Talents, and ter'angreal.  (The "why" is left to the White.)  The Brown also play a major role in education at all levels through the Westlands, including as teachers in (some) of the Academies, and as traveling instructors in less developed areas.

The Brown Ajah has some underlying tension with the White, but are mainly collaborative with the White, Blue, and Yellow (the latter two especially in Sisters who travel to further flung areas).

Their quarters are back on their old level.

Portal stones and other channeler organizations are still a question mark.
