Let's tidy up those loose ends!

so to start things off....I wanted to share this little gem I found:
wot.fandom.com/wiki/Bearded_man
So with this terangreal plus Hess they should've found advancing in tech a lot easier than we originally considered so if we wanted to be a little more advanced than the original series I honestly think that makes more sense than keeping the feel the same...because with access to all that knowledge....it can't be the same? So I would be open to us being slightly more advanced than the barely at all thing. Which sounds good for plumbing b/c omg I want that baaaaaad lol

But I think some things - if they are done with the power they wouldn't have been developed like since we have yellows and Kin healing people then they would still be rudimentary in medical science

I think steam engines on land should be too large to move, so only good for stationary purposes like factories.

Or built along rivers a la our Industrial Revolution.
Or built along rivers a la our Industrial Revolution.
Steamships of our day actually broadened river trade because they were able to utilize rivers that traditional ships couldn't.
AFTER PARTY NOTE: Steam Engines. There is a working Steam Engine in KOD, and it hauled a train of cargo from Cairhian to Tear. Therefore, it makes no sense to me that we wouldn't have them.
AFTER PARTY NOTE: Side-wheel paddle. Idrien Tarsin, headmistress of Rand’s school in Cairhain, discusses a Side-wheel paddle and how is was powered by men. Her complaint was that there was no room in the boat for cargo. Combine a Side-wheel paddle with a steam engine and we have a powered river boat.

I believe, but would need to read back, that it's being used to leverage their ascent into a more powerful faction, Dorevar Salloy . So maybe one day? I'm imagine both Towers would have things to say about that, but otherwise it sounds like an interesting plotline for an ambitious Kin character.
Tseia09/15/2020
If the Kin are setting the fees...I would argue they'd vary the fee based on who it is? Merchants would have a higher fee than regular commuters, etc. I just can't see the Kin being profit-driven unless they take a sharp turn from their origins.

Since they don't have a good relationship with caralain, that gives me an idea:
What if the BT embarks on a project to cut a large ramrod straight canal across the caralain grass to link the Arinelle and Erenin. This would allow river transport from Saldaea all the way to Tar Valon without needing to hit the sea, effectively making the Black Tower the center of a system of continental waterways.

Even when the Seafolk eventually have no choice but to use steam/mechanical ships, the Windfinders will always have a place
and even when flying starts to be come a thing, Windfinders will be very much in demand
AFTER PARTY NOTE: Gliders. At Rand’s school in Cairhien, a young lady is working on a glider. If she is successful with a working model, could a Sea Folk Wind Finder (or any channeler who could control the winds) fly it like an airplane, or at least control the winds enough to keep it aloft over a battlefield ? If it could carry two channelers, could it be used for aerial attack? I propose this is something both Windfinders and the Air Legion do in battle. Air legion b/c they got all involved in the schools and were working with them...then the seafolk came to train at the BT and found out about it and were like...ummm we can do that better. So much rivalry between these groups!

They're "hybrid" ships that can be sailed via steam or wind? So need both a Windfinder and a Steamaster on board?
Channeling being key, especially cooperation between a male and female, would also mean such ships would be useless outside the Sea Folk, even if one was captured.

So Malkier customs....do we want them all to come back? I really don't like the whole older sex teacher thing b/c the power dynamic is fucked and unhealthy, but it might be fun to write so I think we should keep it.
irl historically it was a thing so it does make some sense

One of the customs of Malkier is that of a carneira. The word "carneira" translates to "first", and regards a person's first lover. While young women chose their own carneira, young men do not have a choice; their carneira chooses them. When a young man is chosen by his carneira, she will have him make a daori, a long cord woven of his hair. When the man is holding the daori, his carneira has the advantage over him; the daori must be taken from the person by the carneira in order for this advantage to be laid aside. The daori is presented by the carneira to the man's bride on his wedding day. There is a saying that "a king is not a king, alone with his carneira" (NS, Ch. 22). This information comes from a scene where Lan is confronted by his carneira, so we only see the situation when the carneira is female. Presumably, it works the other way around as well.
For the record, per Tar Valon Library

I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea, personally. I think it's fertile ground for consenting players, though, so perhaps it's survived but not universal

Maybe a dying tradition then? It's not as common as it once was, but not completely dead either?
That way it's left more up to players?

I think we brought up research into Portal Stones on the Seanchan continent?

Buuut to avoid complications, make it ongoing? As in, the few successes they've had were flukes? I.e. still not sure how exactly they succeeded?
Also keeping it restricted to Seanchan should help, since our RP will be focused in the West?

Maybe that it also requires a lot of energy to activate a Portal Stone? So not an easy undertaking?

I like your take Tseia . That limits exposure to random stuff, while leaving them around for individual plots if people are interested

Also ties into my Shadowspawn, lol. Danger kitty is a crossbreed between something extant and something unknown.
