Name: Dena n'am Damodred
Age: 19
Nationality: Mixed - Arad Doman and unknown
Place of Birth: Cairhien
Place of Residence: BT
Affiliation: Not even she is sure. She is loyal to Julian however.
Rank/Title: Questionable member of House Damodred
Talents: Wolf Brother
Weapon Skills: She was given fencing lessons growing up, but did not excel at them.
Martial: 0 | Hand-Held: 4 | Stave: 0 | Thrown: 0 | Ranged: 0 | Mounted: 0
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 115 lbs
Build/Complexion: Slight of build and soft, Dena has a relatively pale complexion, but she does tan rather than burn for the most part.
Eye/Hair Color: Golden eyes and long dark brown hair that falls to her waist.
Distinguishing Features:
Dena is too short to be considered willowy like her mother, but she is quite thin and would best be described as petite. Her clothing is usually Cairhien in design, though she will don something more revealing if it suits her purposes.
Dena seems to be all wide eyed innocence and shyness when first met. She is soft spoken, but each word is enunciated clearly, giving a good indication of where she was raised. She seems especially shy to men at first, but this is actually a calculated coyness designed to pique their interest and make them feel protective of her.
She is both extremely private and a bit of an over-sharer. While she does not like to tell people much of import, she does like to talk and once you get her started, it can be difficult to stop her. Her favorite topic of conversation is always the person she is talking to at the moment. She takes pleasure in learning about others and what makes them tick. Most people enjoy this and consider her to be a good listener and a great conversationalist.
Dena delights in cooking almost as much as talking. Her mother would make Domani meals on special occasions and they would spend all day in the kitchen together. Her mother always said she would never trust a Cairhienin to cook a proper Domani dish and so it was just the two of them with no servants. Those were some of her happiest memories, and Dena developed a deep love of the culinary arts.
In Cairhien, Dena had an easy life. Being born into one of the stronger houses, she did not want for anything. She grew to become somewhat spoiled and shallow and can be a complete brat when she doesn't get her way. While she has become more worldly since leaving home, she is still selfish and immature.
Dena N'am was born in Cairhien to Dolymis Anolrin a Domani merchant woman. Her mother is a skilled manipulator and taught her the womanly arts at a young age. Her mother grew up in a poor family and had to learn to be resourceful. Dena's great grandparents on her mother's side were injured during the Seanchan occupation and could not work even after the invading army was repelled. Because of this, Dena's grandparents had to support them as well as their own family' leaving little for their daughter Dolymis. Her mother had to learn to be innovative and adaptable and tried to teach her daughter to be as well.
Dolymis had many loves in her life, and when she became pregnant, she chose the most beneficial one to marry. When she married Osain Damodred, grandson of Innloine Damodred, she assured him the baby was his and Dena believed him to be her father until right before her 17th naming day.
As she approached 17, her parents told her they were arranging for her to marry the heir to the throne, a man she had never even had a conversation with. Privately, her mother explained to her the necessity of a good match because she was most likely not a Damodred afterall. She even told her the origin of her name. Dena N'am means "song of beauty" in the old tongue, which she always found to be old fashioned, but in a charming, high lady sort of way that she didn't mind. Her mother explained to her that the inspiration for her name had come from more than just her. She had named Dena for another man she had been sleeping with at the time. He was an Arafellin named Aloul Togan who had forsaken his borderland home to become a Tuatha'an. A borderlander who preferred to sing merry jigs to battle chants was fascinating to Dolymis. If money had not been a factor, she would have gladly chosen him to spend the rest of her life with. She had always hoped that Dena was his and that he would somehow find out and seek them. So she named her daughter "song of beauty" as a part of her beautiful daydream.
The story captured Dena's imagination and unwilling to "be married off" like property, she set out to find this tinker man, in the hopes of discerning which of them might really be her father. She did find him, in only a years time and they spent 6 months together traveling with the Tinkers. She learned much of their ways while she was there including how to dance the tiganza, as well as the history and customs of Arafel. She loved Aloul almost immediately and enjoyed his easy affection so different than that of her Cairhein father. She began wearing her hair in two braids as a way to feel more connected with him.
Things changed however when she began dreaming of wolves. It seemed as though wolves had begun to follow the caravan and their numbers grew every night. When her eyes changed, the Tuatha'an requested that she leave. Her (possible) father explained to her what they knew, which wasn't nearly enough to pacify her terror at what was happening to her. She went home and her mother suggested sending her to the White Tower to see if there was anything that could be done. Aloul had warned her of Aes Sedai studying her kind before and the suggestion only terrified her more.
Osain suggested the Black Tower instead, stating he had an uncle there (Julian Damodred) and Dena set off in hopes that he would be able to help her. Surely as blood (as far as they knew), he would not allow harm to befall her, and an Asha'man would know as much as an Aes Sedai on these matters. She showed up on his doorstep and begged him to cure her.
Julian let her know there was little he could do, but he was interested in researching the possibilities. He warned her of the dangers of giving in too much and losing herself to the wolf and offered to be her anchor to humanity and to protect her. She accepted and he bonded her quickly before she could change her mind. This remains a secret from only but a select few at the Black Tower and she goes by simply Dena N'am there.
