This striking beauty and Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah is possibly the most friendly soul one could ever meet! Yvaine has a heart of gold with a warm, approachable, and kind demeanor. She is a very motherly type woman that wants to ensure everyone around her is well-fed, happy, and healthy. She always gives her fellow Sisters the chance to speak their minds by lending them an attentive ear, usually along with the offer of sweets. There isn't a subject under the sun that she can't carry an endless friendly discussion over while refraining from becoming miffed if others disagree or present an opinion of their own. She often bewilders her patients with her ability never to miss a step when she's working while still maintaining a perfectly fluid, comprehensive conversation. Yvaine is also rather curious, as she wants to know everything there is to know about a foreign or unknown subject.
Yvaine is incredibly hard-working, constantly pushing herself to be a better healer and surgeon. She has an unfathomable fascination with the varying forms of healing, many medicinal herbs, and innovations in non-magical practices. Her wisdom, dedication, and go-getter attitude make her a renowned Yellow Aes Sedai. She is intelligent, fast-thinking, calm under pressure, and willful. This is a woman of integrity, compassion, and kindness who merges well with her work and her relationships with other Aes Sedai. Few find her displeasing as she has a knack for adhering to one's heart. Yvaine is also courageous, as she will tackle cases other Sisters may shy away from, such as taking on unsafe or dangerous situations to perform her work. Some were concerned that Yvaine wouldn't handle the harsher, disciplinary aspects of her new position as the Mistress of Novices. But she has proven that she can be stern but fair when punishing Novices. She is no pushover when she needs to take action. Still, there are genuinely none quite like this jovial Yellow!
Yvaine Aldyr was born to Elorn and Genova Aldyr. She was the third of five children they would have and their second daughter. Elorn and Genova's oldest was Tigra, and the rest of Yvaine's siblings were brothers named Elyas, Seth, and Sirus. Her family wasn't noble by birth, yet they were still highly respected in Caemlyn due to their long lineage of renowned 'Mother's,' aka healing women. Almost every woman in her line trained to care for the sick and injured. Some had done so through the use of medicinal herbs, poultices, and surgery, while others learned to heal through the One Power. Many wealthy, noble families sought her mother and grandmother as doctors. And though her family was happy to serve them, they also provided their services to the needy and often did so without any charge. So it was hardly a wonder when Yvaine herself showed an interest in her family's legacy.
Even as a young girl Yvaine displayed remarkable curiosity towards various herbs and how they worked healing the sick and injured; she was pretty curious, always asking questions while observing her mother and grandmother in the garden. She'd draw pictures of plants, write notes, and experiment with remedies of her own making. If she didn't bury her head in a medical, anatomy, or herbalism book, then Yvaine was practicing surgeries on toys. Her dedicated fascination with the various tools to aid others was profound even with her family's history. Due to her fast learning abilities, intelligence, and passion for the work, Yvaine's mother allowed her daughter to aid her at the tender age of 7. Of course, she mostly carried her mother's books, medicines, bandages, etc., but Genova would make it a point to verbally describe what she was doing to her daughter while performing her work. She even showed Yvaine how different body parts worked and their importance.
When Yvaine first exhibited signs of possessing the spark at 16, her parents were thrilled. She'd go to Tar Valon without haste to study at the White Tower to become an Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah. She was one of the few girls to enter the Tower, immediately knowing which Ajah she desired/intended to join. Yvaine spent seven years as a Novice and then seven as an Accepted before earning the shawl.
After the Blight reawakened in 55 FA, Yvaine ventured to the Borderlands to lend her aid. While there, her path would cross with Jadin al'Vyron, Varian Mathayas, and Julian Damodred, three Asha'man from the Black Tower. She would befriend them all during her time there, which wasn't unusual because she often made friends with the people she met. However, what would be unique, or instead caught her a bit off guard, was that a romance started to bud between Jadin and herself! And although they would become quite intimate, it never led to anything beyond a relationship between the sheets. But even though it would never grow into love, Yvaine would recall their brief time together with great fondness.
In 75 FA, upon the news that Rahlin had led an attack on the White Tower, Yvaine immediately returned to Tar Valon to assist her sisters. She took care of as many sisters as she could during the year-long siege and was impressed to hear of the part her former flame, Jadin al'Vyron, had to play in overthrowing Rahlin.
Once again, Yvaine would return to the Borderlands in 80 FA but, on her journey, would discover something she'd never expect: A baby. While traveling along the Erinin River, she heard strange cries and, upon investigating, found a baby boy floating within the reeds. It was clear that someone had tried to drown him, so she took him back to Tar Valon. She would give him to servants at the Tower to raise, became his Benefactor, Guardian, and named him Raife Davoe. To keep him close to her, she'd acquire Raife jobs at the White Tower. First as a kitchen boy, then as a groomsman to the horses, and finally as a Warder Trainee. Yvaine loved Raife dearly, even though he wasn't her child, and did what she could, or as much as an Aes Sedai is able, to provide him with a good life. But after he'd lose a friend in Saldaea, he'd leave Tar Valon. The boy found his calling as a Gleeman, or so he'd led her to believe, still visiting her often.
During her time helping raise Raife, Yvaine remained within the Central Lands, helping out where needed and even making house calls. Most of her efforts focused on Andor, where she was born, and her family resided. Because of her work, her family's history, and her being Aes Sedai, Yvaine would assist Talana Trakand in giving birth to Gareth and Ishara at the Queen's request. She'd also take an interest in Amrylin Katreine din Ziago's mission to build a medical research school in Tar Valon and lent aid in this endeavor to the best of her abilities.
She'd be devastated by the news of Jadin's assassination and plants a white cherry blossom tree in the White Tower's garden in his memory. And with Raife constantly on the road, traveling around with Toria, someone whom Yvaine immensely disliked, she began to search for his birth family. She hoped that if she found them, he'd at least settle down back with them. It took a considerable amount of research and yet another trip to the Borderlands, but eventually, Yvaine found them. She sent a letter to Raife to inform him of her discovery, and just as she'd hoped, he settled down with them. True, the only reason was that Toria had passed, but Yvaine considered it a victory regardless. But her joy would only be exponentially increased when he'd return to Tar Valon in 113 FA bonded to a Blue Sister named Rymara Orelaev as her second Warder. It pleased her immensely to have him near her again and fulfilling such a noble responsibility.
