Cocky, sure of herself, and fiercely independent, Selene knows what she wants, and goes after it. She is unafraid to stand up and speak when she feels something needs to be said, which occasionally gets her into trouble. She never shrinks at taking whatever may come while standing up for the people and ideas she believes in, which can lead her into danger. More often though, it works in her favor. She talks to everyone about every subject and has opinions on everything, even when she chooses not to share them. Selene is a natural persuader and can easily see people’s motivations through seemingly disconnected events, and is skilled at being able to bring these ideas together with her own and communicate them as a common goal with an eloquence that is nothing short of mesmerizing.
When her silver tongue isn't being used in the art of persuasion, it is busy weaving tales that captivate her audiences. Charm and appeal are qualities she possess in spades. She seems to instinctively know how to capture an audience, and pick up on mood and motivation in ways that allow her to communicate with reason, emotion, passion, restraint – whatever the situation calls for. A talented imitator, Selene is able to shift her tone and manner to reflect the needs of the audience, while still maintaining her own voice.
Selena is the middle child of three children born into nobility in the westernmost nation of the Borderlands. Her father became Lord of Tyr upon the death of his mother, Charlytte Destine, daughter of Maedin Bashere, then ruler of Saldaea. Tyr had been a gift to her from her father on her wedding day and she ruled the region well. She and her husband, Zyin Destine had one son together, Selena's father, Rhoul. Rhoul married a beautiful fiery red haired woman with a fiery temper to match, togther they had three children: Emmyt, Selena, and Ranai.
Being the middle child, Selena was often overlooked. Her brother was trained for his future responsibilities, and her sister was the baby everyone fawned over. Selena resented this for a time, but eventually she began to understand that her position gave her more freedom than her siblings. She was still trained in the things noblewomen all learned, the language of fans, how to ride a horse, how to defend herself, and even the Sa'sara (though her parents didn't know about that), but there was much less pressure put on her than her elder brother, and much less attention given to her than her younger sister. Which meant that for Selena, after her lessons, she was free to do as she pleased.
What pleased Selena more than anything else, were stories. She read everything she could get her hands on, and listened with rapt attention to every storyteller she met. When she met the court bard while visiting the capitol at age 15, she became enamored immediately. He taught her how to juggle, and during that brief lesson, she fell in love. Selena thought of him constantly, and daydreamed about him during her lessons. She even went so far as to write his name inside a heart on one of her papers, which lead to some unwanted attention from her parents. The bard was 19 years her senior, and Selena was still too young to be thinking about boys in their opinion, let alone older men. They questioned their daughter, unsure of whether this crush of hers was reciprocated and Selena, being an emotional teenager, fled. She traveled to the capitol, determined to let the bard know her feelings and win his heart, no matter what her parents thought.
She was well known within the court however, and her plans were foiled. She was sent back home where her parents wrung their hands and complained that they just did not know what to with her. She wrote letters to her love, expressing the feelings in her heart, but when his reply came her heart was broken. He seemed to be trying to let her down gently, which only hurt her more. He explained that he thought she would learn to prefer the company of others her own age, but all Selena read was that he thought she was too young and too weak to be of any interest to him. Devastated, embarrassed, and desperate to get away from it all, Selena ran away again. This time though, she wasn't running towards anything, she was simply running.

PERSONALITY
Cocky, sure of herself, and fiercely independent, Selene knows what she wants, and goes after it. While receptive to criticism, seeing it as a tool for self improvement, it’s easy for her to take it a little too much to heart. Selene determines her self worth based on whether she is able to live up to her own high standards, and sometimes asks for criticism more out of insecurity than out of confidence, always wondering what she could do better. If she fails to meet a goal or to help someone she promised to help, her self-confidence will undoubtedly plummet, and often she reacts with anger, followed by depression. While this anger is at herself, it can be directed at others close to her as well, which only deepens the period of depression after.
In her depressed state, her self destructive tendencies surface. She likes to drink and smoke, and becomes sullen and withdrawn.

Selena changed her name to Selene and joined a traveling show. Eventually, she wrote to her parents to let them know she was alright. They sought her for over a year before she came home to them again. This time though, she was an adult, and when she explained that she had found her purpose in life, there was little they could besides accept it. Her visit was not a long one. She could sense their disappointment in her and knew she no longer belonged there. She set out again, to make her way in her new profession.
This time she made her way on her own. The traveling show had been a small one and she didn't care for the way they ran things. Of course, doing it on her own got lonely and when she hit it off with another woman in her profession at a tavern one night, they decided to try things together.
