Rosyanna is not overly occupied with her appearance. She will pay attention to it if doing so can win her an advantage, but doesn't appear to have a personal interest in such things. She wears her hair tied in a braid to keep it out of the way and her clothing is utilitarian in nature for the most part. She wears dark colored garments with lots of pockets and straps to carry things. She prefers pants over skirts. Originally she wore only the loose trousers donned by Tairen commoners, but as the tighter britches first worn by Min have become more popular, Rosyanna transitioned her style to mimic that.
She has several ear piercings that she has kept from training with the wind-finders, but no tattoos. Around her neck she wears a bit of sand from the waste, to remember her time training with the Wise Ones there. She often wears a large flat brimmed hat to block the sun, and seems to embrace her humble heritage.
PERSONALITY
Rosyanna thinks before acting. She is cautious, but not always cautious enough. Her Aes Sedai composure has occasionally slipped of late, and she seems somewhat less sure of herself after stepping down from her post. She gets very excited by new ideas and concepts and is very curious. She loves to share knowledge with others and can be known to ramble on at length turning discussions into lectures.
She chafes under the thumb of the Black Ajah and somewhat resents them for helping her come to power, only to use her as their fall guy. She is fascinated by the new exchange program however, and is excited to be a part of it. She has also been tasked by the White Tower to assist in the assassination investigation and to see if it is connected to the disappearances of the ter'angreal on her watch. She is tasked by the Black Ajah to impede the investigation by both Towers in any way that she can.
HISTORY
Rosyanna was the second daughter of Jon and Mari. Her elder sister was 3 years her senior and named Marisu. There had been talk about naming Rosyanna Jonyanna since her sister had been named after her mother, but Jon decided to hold out for a son to pass his name along to. The couple struggled to conceive however, and there were no more children after the two girls. (B/c F him right?)
Her father was a tailor and her mother was a cook on The Blue Danube. The Dube, as her mother called it, was a smuggling vessel manned by not a single man. From the captain to the lowest deckhand, the ship was entirely crewed by women. As a result, the girls were often in the care of their father while their mother was away, but she always returned with stories of her adventures and a sack full of coins.
Marisu and their father always seemed to get along a bit better than Jon and Rosyanna. Marisu was a natural with the needle and had a keen eye for fabrics so she often helped their father in his work while Rosyanna would help keep their home and do the cooking. She liked doing those things and caring for her family, it came very naturally to her, but sometimes she felt almost as though she were their servant. When they would get home from the shop they worked in, they were too tired to help with the housework and rarely picked up after themselves at all. Her sister liked to act like she was the lady of the house when their mother was away, which only made it worse. She was always showering her little sister in unsolicited, if kindly meant, advice.
Rosyanna begged her mother to take her with her on the ship every time she visited, but she was only allowed to come on day trips, and those were few and far between.
When she was 13, she was so determined to convince her mother to change her mind and let her come that she snuck out after her, and followed her to the docks. Instead of seeing her mother board her own ship however, she made her way to another vessel and was greeted in the most warm and familiar way before going below. Rosyanna waited for her mother, concocting a plan as she did so. If her mother was indeed doing what she suspected down there, then maybe that could be used to her advantage. She decided to confront her and threaten to tell their father if she didn't bring her along this trip.
Sure enough, as her mother disembarked from the ship, she couldn't resist just one last lingering kiss, and so there would be no denying it. She confronted her mother as planned, and it actually worked. Even though she had thought she knew it would, she was still a little surprised. Part of her thought that her mother would ring her up by her nose and not put up with this blackmailing business, but she gave in easily. She agreed to send a letter at the first available port informing Jon and Marisu that Rosyanna had stowed herself aboard the ship and there wasn't time to turn back around.
So off they went, and it was the best time of Rosyanna's life. She helped her mother in the galley and they had to share a bunk, but this was by far the most exciting thing she had ever done. Unfortunately, while in Murandy, their ship was attacked by brigands who thought an all female ship was an easy target. All the brigands were killed, but her mother was gravely wounded in the process. They patched her up as best they could and traveled on to Caemlyn where their buyer was the owner of the Dusty Wheel Inn. The well connected innkeeper was able to find an Aes Sedai healer in the city and Rosyanna watched suspiciously as the woman worked to heal her mother. She did not trust the Aes Sedai and intently watched her every move, though there was little movement to watch. It was only after the Aes Sedai finished, that she felt something odd stirring within herself. It was almost as if something inside was reaching towards her mother. The Aes Sedai smiled and informed her that she herself could learn to channel. With her mother not recovered enough to protest, the Aes Sedai, convinced Rosyanna that she must leave her family and join the White Tower. Though distrustful of Aes Sedai and very resistant, the thirteen year old was no match for the Aes Sedai's persuasive tactics.
Rosyanna did not enjoy her time in Novice white. She wrote many letters to her family, but never received any responses. After spending six lonely years as a Novice, the second arch was too much for her and she refused to enter the third. She was put out of the Tower with enough gold to get her home, but when she returned to her family her worst fears were realized. They considered her a witch and wanted nothing more to do with her. Lost and unsure with how to proceed with her life, an opportunity presented itself when a member of the Kin approached her. She joined their ranks and began to learn from them. While she had been a Novice, Rosyanna had often been overlooked because of her low potential, and had struggled in her studies as a result. With more hands on tutelage from her mentor, she began to gain confidence and discovered she actually had a knack for certain weaves.
She wasn't the best healer, but those weaves came the most naturally to her and so it was the only thing she felt good at. She fit in with the Kin, more than she had fit in anywhere in a long time, but she did not stay at the Farm. She set up a shop in Murandy, in the very town where her mother's ship had been attacked, where she sold herbs and did some healing. Rosyanna felt like she was fighting against what had ruined her life with everything she had learned along the way, and was very satisfied with her life. When her mother's ship fell into disrepair, she sent her the money to make it river worthy again. It cost her her house to do so, but she moved into her shop and thought it well worth the price.
During the Last Battle, it felt as if there was fighting everywhere, no corner of the world left untouched. Her little town was no exception. Her shop was robbed by desperate people who could not afford the help they needed, and she took a rake to the face. She fled, fearing her life, knowing that the one person she couldn't heal, was herself. The shame of being chased from her home like that lit a fire in her, and she jumped at the Amyrlin's proclamation to allow women of all ages and especially Kin to come to the Tower and returned there with a very different attitude than her first stay.
Starving for knowledge, Rosyanna dove headfirst into everything. She was unphased this time by all three arches and rose to Accepted in only three years. She succeeded Sharina Melloy as the leader of Family N1. Thirsty for more knowledge, she took every opportunity along the way including giving up that position to study with both the Windfinders and the Wise Ones in the new exchange program. After six years as an Accepted, she was raised to the Brown Ajah, though she had been courted by the Yellow as well. With Sharina Sedai joining the yellow a week before, the Browns were especially proud of their newest recruit. They allowed her to leave the Tower to study at the library which had been opened in Rhuidean during her time there with the Wise Ones. The Wise Ones had not allowed her time to visit the library, and it had been pure torture for her to have it so close and unreachable. She was treated somewhat poorly by Nesune Binhara, due to their relative status in the OP and Ajah, and ended up feeling like she barely had any more freedom as an Aes Sedai in the library than she had as an apprentice to the Wise Ones.
She only remained in Rhuidean for a year before going to study at the Cairhien's Academy of the Rising Sun. There she made contacts with Asha'man in the Spirit Legion and worked along side them for over 10 years before returning to the Tower on a more permanent basis. Upon her return she set about teaching her Brown Sisters everything she had learned and was eagerly sought after as a teacher by many Accepted as well.
One such Accepted who sought her out was Zamira Dagaron and the two became somewhat close. They were close enough that Zamira would often come to the Brown to discuss ideas and pick her brain for knowledge even after she became a Green. Eventually, Rosyanna became slightly uncomfortable with some of the things Zamira wanted to discuss and when the Green felt she had raised suspicion, she gave Rosyanna an ultimatum: Join the Black Ajah or die. Rosyanna joined and was promised to rise in the ranks of the White Tower.
Though her strength in the Power was quite low, her status began to elevate over time as the newer generation was more progressive and valued her innovation and dedication to her Ajah. She was very vocal about getting the Ajah out of the Tower more, encouraging her Sisters to go out and teach and become beloved by the people. After fifty years of unwavering dedication, she became a member of the Ruling Council of Browns and when the next seat for Sitter became available she was elected. When the First Chair position became available, it was hers easily.
Rosyanna enjoyed being the head of her Ajah, though she was one of its weakest members, but her position would not last. During an event for the delegation from the Black Tower, several items of power went missing. Zamira had given her instructions on which items must be brought out and who should be watching over them. She hadn't known for certain they would be stolen, but she had suspected it. She hated losing items she was still studying, she hated looking like an idiot who couldn't do her job, and she hated how she was once again not really in control of her own life. She had given that control away over and over again in her life for power. The more power she had, the less free she seemed to be to use it. Rosyanna stepped down as First Chair, taking responsibility for the debacle and volunteered to be a chaperone for the Tower exchange program as penance. Again, this was something that had been decided for her, but at least it did open her up to new interesting pursuits.
