PERSONALITY
Candia is warm and friendly, and has not been hardened by her profession. She does judge people by their smell however, and does not extend her warmth to those she believes to be criminals. If someone smells free of violence though, she tends to trust them easily and can be somewhat naive about it.
She adores fashion and art and has a love of aesthetically pleasing things. Having grown up in a mining family, she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty, but she prefers to look pretty doing it. She has a very high opinion of her looks and can be a bit vain.
She is quite strong willed and doesn't care for being told what to do. In fact, ordering her to do something, is a good way to make sure she does the opposite. She is outgoing and disarming and loves a bit of harmless flirting, but isn't interested in any romantic entanglements.
Candia has never been in a boat other than a ferry and avoids them at all costs. She has no sea legs to speak of and would rather travel by any other means possible. Though she has traveled on horseback more frequently than by boat, she isn't much of a fan of them either. With gateways provided by the Kin, she is most likely to travel that way, using a horse as a pack animal and walking along side it.
HISTORY
Candia was born to two miners in the Andoran city of Baerlon. Her mother and father both worked the mines and she was primarily raised by her grandmother. One morning, when her parents were dropping her off at her grandmother's home for the day, they found that a break in had occurred and the burglar had murdered her grandmother who must have awakened at some point while the crime was taking place. With both of her parents working, their family was fairly well off, and they were able to afford the services of an Andoran thief-taker named Ava.
Being that Candia was 13 and old enough not to strictly need a caretaker (she had been caring for her grandmother as much as she had cared for Candia for the last few years), Candia was on her own while her parents worked. She spent her time following the thief-taker around while she searched for the person who had murdered her grandmother. Instead of being annoyed, the thief-taker allowed the girl to accompany her, understanding that she needed something to do with her pain and the closure would help.She thought that Candia had good instincts and appreciated her tenacity.
When Candia began mentioning that some people just smelled "wrong" to her, this piqued Ava's interest even more. The woman did not have the sniffing ability herself, but was aware of its existence and strongly suspected Candia of having it. When the case came to its conclusion and the murderer was found, the theif-taker offered to take Candia on as an apprentice. Her parents were against it at first, but Candia was fiercely independent and strong willed and they soon realized that if they forbid it, they would more than likely lose their daughter as she would go off on her own to do as she wished whether they liked it or not.
She traveled the nation with Ava, learning the art of thief-taking. She honed her detective skills and was schooled in close quarter combat by her mentor. With her ability to sniff out criminals, she and Ava did very well for themselves and began to get jobs for the Andoran nobility more frequently than Ava ever had on her own. They made a good deal of coin from this, and once they had made enough of it, Ava decided to retire. She was getting older and had decided she had taught Candia all she could and was now just holding her back. The two are still very close, and Candia visits her often. Less often, but still occasionally, she visits her parents in Baerlon.
Working on a case in Caemlyn, Candia met and befriended a man named Cazel, who claims to be a scholar at the Blooming Rose Academy. He has a romantic interest in her which she does not reciprocate, but she does accept his help in the form of tech which he asks her to test in the field for him.
