Siefh is an anxious and high strung person. He has a habit of making problems worse for himself by overthinking and lashing out without caution. When he is not anxious he is generally laid back and likes to spend his time reading Seanchan novels and studying old documents on the Age of Legends. He is an avid stones player, but has a tendency to get overconfident and take too many risks in the latter half of the game, which often costs him the win. Siefh has had many short relationships, but always manages to sabotage them in the end.
Siefh was born in Tear to Sandi and Kiersa Korvin during the waning years of the Tower War. The Korvin’s were very successful luxury traders whose business boomed during the years of conflict between the Towers. He was born small and premature, but was saved along with his dying mother by an Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah.
Sandi Korvin is one of the richest men in Tear, but doesn’t let that get to his ego. Born and raised in Tear, Sandi is descended from the Tuatha’an who settled in Tear after the Last Battle. Growing up he was taught from his parent’s a warped version of the Way of the Leaf. Siefh’s father is kind and soft-spoken in private, but becomes passionate and charismatic when speaking in front of crowds. He enjoys the finer things in life, especially artwork and fine wines. Sandi is a member of the Commons Council and has great influence in Tear.
Kiersa Korvin was originally Kiersa Saran, a ward of House Aesnan of Cairhien. She was orphaned at six years old when her parents, who were influential merchants, were assassinated in a political feud. She was taken in by House Aesnan, who raised her to be a proper lady and in the hopes that she would marry into the family. She grew up a stern and sullen child with an appetite for power and control. Kiersa was engaged to marry a cousin of the head of House Aesnan, but met and married Sandi while both were studying at the Academy of the Enduring Stone. The head of House Aesnan was disappointed in her decision to marry Sandi and now only speaks to her through messengers, even though they had once been as close as father and daughter.
Through Kiersa’s wit and her ability in Daes Dae’Mar, the Korvin family merchant business flourished. Sandi had inherited the business from his father, but was too kind and honest to get his hands dirty in order to run the business properly, which caused it to stagnate. When he married Kiersa she immediately took the reins of the business and began to rapidly expand it by exploiting the uncertainty felt by merchants during the conflict between the Towers. At one point in the war, she was able to purchase remarkable power-wrought weapons from corrupt Black Tower agents and sell them to the Green Ajah for large profits. That business was short-lived after her Black Tower connections were rooted out, however, she has remained connected to the Green Ajah ever since.
Siefh spent a lot of time travelling the Westlands with his parent’s merchant caravans as a child. During these travels he developed a love for the cultures of other countries, especially that of the Tai’Seanchan. Siefh admired the aesthetic and fashions of the Tai’Seanchan so much, that when he was eleven years old he spent most of the year with lacquered nails, until he was scolded by an offended Tai’Seanchan merchant. He dreams of one day travelling to Seanchan proper to study their culture and write a book comparing the two Seanchan nations.
On his fourteenth nameday, his father brought home Rayn, a young man down on his luck who had been caught with his brother trying to steal Sandi’s coach. Sandi took pity on Rayn and took him on the condition that he would give up crime and study the blade or a craft of his choice… and look after Siefh. The friendless Siefh was immediately enamored by the dower Rayn and the two became as close as brothers, leading to the Korvins making Rayn their official ward.
When the two of them turned sixteen, they began to be educated at the Academy of the Enduring Stone. Siefh went there to study a variety of subjects, but took a keen interest in researching the stories and folklore of the nations of the Westlands. He had a particular interest in comparing and contrasting different versions of the same story from different countries. By comparing the different stories, he believed he could extract kernels of lost history from them.
After Siefh had been at the Academy for a few years, his mother gave up on the idea that he would inherit the responsibility of running the family business. He had failed to mature like she had hoped he would once he was away from home, so she began to train a protege to run the business once she retired. Soon after she announced at a ball that Siefh was engaged to marry this protege, a miss Sumar. Siefh had not been informed of the engagement before the party and was left awestruck, as Sumar had been his childhood crush. He found the engagement overwhelming and fled to Tai’Seanchan, where he intended to join the Academy of the Rising Sun in Falme.
Siefh spent the next two years exiled in Tanchico studying the culture of Tai’Seanchan, gambling, and trying to buy an escort north to Falme. His parents had connections in Tanchico, who made sure he stayed there and out of trouble. They made sure never made it to Falme to join the Academy there. Eventually, Kiersa sent Rayn and Sandi to convince Siefh to come home and go back to the Academy of the Golden Hawk. Once home he began to meet with Sumar occasionally for meals, but always managed to get on her bad side during these meetings. A tedious off and on again romance formed between them over the years, but mostly fizzled out once Siefh left for the Tower.
Siefh spent the next five years studying at the Academy and working on his thesis. While assigned to assist an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah in her studies, he and Rayn were attacked by suspected dark friends who wanted the Brown’s research. The assailants mortally wounded Rayn with a stab wound to the stomach. Desperate to save his friend, Siefh unknowingly channeled Saidin and healed the wound. The brown Aes Sedai recognized what Siefh did and sent for Asha’man to test him that same night. Siefh left for the Black Tower at the beginning of the following year to join up and learn to channel properly. Rayn came with him to look after him and train with the Blademasters in the Black Tower.
Life in the Black Tower was not easy for Siefh at first. He found himself constantly bumping heads with his fellow Soldiers and was constantly finding himself the subject of ridicule amongst them. After a few years he began to adjust and make friends amongst his comrades. He wasn’t particularly gifted when it came to the one-power, but he poured himself into his studies and was raised to Dedicated after eight years.
Once raised to a Dedicated, Siefh became so hyper-focused on being made full Asha’man that he developed a block on Saidin due to stress. It isn’t a constant block, but any time he is anxious he finds that he cannot hold on to the weaves. Currently, Siefh is at the Tower, working on his block and dreading his wedding which is set for the beginning of 114 FA.
