The current Queen of Andor, Talana Trakand, resembles her grandmother Elayne Trakand more than her own mother. A passionate woman who cares deeply for her people. From the day she could walk Talana has sought to heal the wounds of Andor through whatever means necessary, for many years that meant touring the various kitchens and institutions in the city to offer her people her hand and then when she ascended to the throne her approach became less direct and more political. She used her political weight to keep the houses in line and improve the lives of her people yet she knows that the palace is an echo chamber, where her words will echo through a hundred mouths until they’re repeated back to her in a new form making her feel very distant from her people. Her husband, Calyas, has become her greatest tool in her pursuits over the years as he is a man who will never lie to her and often acts in her stead. Even with his support the last few years have been particularly trying and the crown weighs heavily upon Talana’s brow.
She has always been family orientated, her children being the only things in the world which come before her kingdom and her husband earning her the moniker of Lioness early in her career so it should not come as a surprise that when news of her son’s death reached the palace something inside the queen broke. Her careful and gentle nature was consumed by the fire within her, a fire which she intended to use to scour the Shadow from Andor and the Westlands by force. It was only her bond with her son which stopped Talana from waging a bloody war, his gentle and calm nature stilling the fires within her and steadying her hand. Now with the return of Gareth and Isalia, both alive and well, Talana has begun to question her place in the world, wondering if her once gentle approach was the right one and seeking to hear from her people directly rather than the echo chamber of the palace. She is still hurting but a Lioness must always be strong for the pride, Talana is no exception.
Friends
To be friends with a queen, especially one as influential as Talana, is a challenge let alone to be a queen and make friends. Talana values people from all walks of life and can see their potential more often than not yet she cannot truly let them in, the only ones who can and do get close to her are her own family. She even keeps the nobility at arms length though there are a few within the White Tower who could inevitably call the Queen of Andor their friend, after all she is an Aes Sedai herself…
Allies
After the death, and later return, of her son and the war between the White and Black Towers Talana does not trust many of her fellow world leaders. She trusts the Aiel, the Malkieri and the Manethereni leadership explicitly while watching all other leaders including the Amirlyn Seat warily, waiting for the copper to drop and the uneasy peace to break once more. She holds staunchly to the Dragon’s Compact and will offer her aid to any neighbouring kingdoms who ask but she will always be watched for signs of deceit or betrayal, after all the Shadows are everywhere.
Enemies
Talana only truly views the servants of the Dark One as her enemies, even if war were to break out between Andor and another kingdom she would not truly believe them to be enemies but merely rivals engaged in a bloody argument. This means that even at the height of a conflict Talana will seek to make peace, viewing negotiations as a sign of strength rather than a show of weakness especially as she values the lives of her subjects so much. Only the lives of Dark Friends have no value and she will scour them from the Westlands one day at a time.
Lovers
There is and will always be only Calyas, he is the perfect counterbalance to her temper and passions. She loves him with every fibre of her being and cannot even imagine a day when the bond does not linger in her mind. She draws a great deal of comfort from her bond with him and when Talana loses her temper Calyas is the only one who can sooth her, though few are willing to brave her fury and it inevitably even unnerves Calyas.
