Bright ginger hair falls in loose curls halfway down her back and frames a heart-shaped face. Her eyes have long copper lashes rimming them. Thinner lips, and a wide smile that is almost too large for her face, but manages to be beautiful rather than awkward. Her dress is most often of the more modest Andoran style: full skirts gathered at the waist and a fitted, corseted bodice, with full-length sleeves. When acting as Daughter Heir the materials are of fine silks and satins, embellished with thread of gold and silver embroidery, jewels, and pearls. While traveling and not on business of state, she favors sturdier, less embellished garments; functional, if still well made.
In a word, spirited. Ishara is as fiery as her hair. As a child, she was mischievous; harmless pranks often befalling servants, tutors and her brother, Gareth. Six years under the Mistress of Novices in the Tower curbed that particular streak, bringing hard-won maturity befitting of her station. Nothing could quell her sense of adventure, however.
She would call herself “strong-willed” and “passionate,” while those nearest to her would say “stubborn, with a bit of a temper.” Ishara was a born leader, always bringing her brother and friend, Elaira, along for her schemes by sheer strength of will. Between her upbringing as Daughter Heir, and her training at the White Tower, she is a veritable force of nature.
The impetuousness of youth is beginning to fade, as she takes on the mantle of Aes Sedai as well as Daughter Heir, and while she may still chafe a bit at authority, she takes her duty to the Tower, the Mother, and above all Andor, to heart. Her greatest fear is failure to live up to the expectations for her. Her namesake, Queen Ishara, forged Andor out of Hawkwing’s empire and reigned with strength, kindness, and wisdom that inspired legends and created a dynasty lasting centuries. That legacy, combined with the expectations of the Tower due to her potential in the Power and lineage, make the crown she will one day wear a heavy burden to bear, spurring her to travel the world and seek wild adventure while she is still able.
Her loyalty, as with much of her personality, is fierce and deep. Andor and the White Tower hold it until her dying day, but above even them, are those she loves, and Gareth before all others.
Ishara was born during a summer storm and it set the tone for the rest of her life. Those who had a hand in raising her would look at each other in exasperation and mutter “wild as the wind, fierce as the lightning.” She had an altogether happy childhood in the Royal Palace of Caemlyn. Queen Talana had married her Warder, Prince Consort Calyas Athaidhrin, rather than seeking a political marriage. Some said it was for love, others that it was Aes Sedai aloofness and not wanting to show favor to any particular house. What Ishara saw were parents who, if not passionately in love, had a deep mutual fondness and respect for one another. They loved both their children and spent what time they could afford as a family. Though Ishara returned the fondness for her parents, and that of their nursemaid, Anna, it was her brother, Gareth, who held her greatest regard. He was always there, a hand to hold when she felt afraid. A pillar of strength when she faltered. An accomplice in her various adventures, if he was always cautioning the folly of most of them.
When she reached an age to begin tutoring, Elaira Taravin came to learn alongside the First Prince and Daughter Heir. The girls made fast friends, cementing a multigenerational alliance with House Taravin. Together they learned obvious basic skills, politics, diplomacy, world culture, court etiquette, riding, and much more to prepare them for life as rulers and nobility. Ishara also studied hand to hand combat for self-defense under their father, while Gareth learned all she did and began weapons training as well.
While tradition dictated that the two royal children would go to Tar Valon, it was an unexpected event that expedited their travel date. When Ishara was 15, she and Gareth had gone for a brisk ride in the countryside. At her urging, the pair had been racing their mounts and his had caught a hoof on an unseen fieldstone. The horse toppled, rolled, and was able to trot away, but Gareth had been thrown, landing on his head. Ishara rushed to him and found him bleeding, unconscious, and barely breathing. Desperate need to make sure he lived filled her as she wept over him. Out of nowhere, his body arched upward and he gasped, eyes flying wide, and then settled back blinking at her, asking what under the Light had happened. They returned to the Palace and Talana verified between lectures, reprimands, and exaltations that they were both safe. Ishara had Healed him completely. The pair went to the Tower half a year earlier than planned. To her surprise and delight, Elaira too had the spark inborn and would train alongside Ishara.
Adapting to life as a Novice was difficult. Where her wild nature met with some leniency in the Palace, she received none once her name was in the Book of Novices. She nearly set the record for the number of trips to the Mistress of Novice’s office in her first year. While she knew better than to question the authority of any full Sister, that obedience was more difficult to come by for the Accepted who taught the Novice classes. When it became clear that neither a welted backside nor a never-ending line of chores, which she attacked with a stubborn ferocity, were teaching Ishara her place, she called for by the Amyrlin herself. She returned pale-faced and tight-lipped, refusing to tell anyone what the Mother had had to say to her, only that her “potential was far too great to be wasted” and that the Tower meant to see it wasn’t. That day, during the second year of her training as a Novice, was a turning point for Ishara. While she still found herself in trouble from time to time for insolence or a prank gone awry, it was no more than most of the other girls and her training accelerated thereafter. She was tested and raised to Accepted less than two years later.
As an Accepted, the suspicion that she was gifted in Healing with all Five Powers was confirmed and the Yellow Ajah courted her heavily. Despite the obvious good she could do within the Yellow, she found her studies always drawn to Shadowspawn and Dreadlords and how to combat them. Due to her royal education, her studies in history, politics, and diplomacy were reduced and any free time she wasn’t looking for Green tutors willing to teach her various Weaves useful in battle, was spent down in the Warders’ Yard, visiting Gareth… and trying to pick up some of the various pointers the gaidin gave their trainees.
Infrequent trips home were necessary from time to time for various political reasons, and on one such trip, Ishara overheard a report brought to Queen Talana of a suspected male channeler in Caemlyn. Despite her efforts at being more mature and responsible, the temptation to seek him out was too great for her to resist. As always, she stirred up Gareth and Elaira as her partners in crime. The incident resulted in a tongue lashing for the ages and lashings like she hadn’t earned in years, but it had brought good as well. A lost young man had a better life, and her dearest friend had discovered a rare Talent! Elaira’s budding sense of self was well worth the tender sitting they did for the next few weeks. Three years more passed as Accepted before Ishara was tested for the Shawl and was raised to the Green Ajah at nearly the same time Elaira was raised to the Red. She bonded Gareth as her Warder the very same day.
