Distinguishing Features:
Some people just blend in to the crowd no matter how hard they try, being underestimated at every turn and without truly exerting their will they are often completely unseen even by the common folk. For as long as anyone can remember Rymara has been one such person, always the smallest and skinniest girl in Whitebridge (and then beyond). People who noticed her often underestimated her strength, her pride and her tenacity which they came to regret. After all, the old blood and the pride of Manetheren run deep and Rymara is no exception to that rule. Her father raised her to stand with her back straight, her chin up and to never back down from a worthy cause, to fight for the people. Her mother instilled a sense of patience and diligence in her, building her up to watch, wait and listen, weighing all of the information carefully before acting. Even when other children tried to provoke her during her formative years Rymara rarely rose to it, and the only instances of her temper breaking are used to teach children why they should never underestimate someone.
Growing into her role now, as an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, has tested her in ways she could never anticipate. She has faced challenges that a little city girl could never have imagined facing and she has done so with serenity and calm, despite the terror bubbling away beneath the surface. She has taken every lesson her parents taught her and expanded upon them to become a Sister for the people, dedicating almost all of her time and effort to the betterment of the world despite the inevitable cost to her. She is selfless, quite literally, to a fault. Even in working to establish her network of eyes and ears Rymara has chosen people that need help, individuals who need someone to face a challenge for them or to save them from something, then she is almost always surprised when they offer her their services and when they do she ensures that they, their family and anyone they care about get whatever they might need to live comfortably.
Yet beneath all of the kindness, diligence and generosity is a raging inferno of passion and a presence which few can match, she may be small but she could make even the strongest and proudest fall silent, make even the most stubborn and pig headed royals heed her words…
Whitebridge has blossomed into a wealthy bordertown as trade between Manetheren and the world at large has exploded, many families have been drawn to the allure of commerce over the years and the Orelaev’s were no exception. They came to White Bridge while Amora Oralaev was with child, three months pregnant and carrying Rymara’s older brother. They quickly established themselves as a family with Amora and her husband, Tobin, providing vital administrative services throughout the city and the surrounding farmsteads. They offered their services to anyone and everyone, regardless of their means, and soon found themselves working for the crown itself (albeit through several middle-men) reviewing trade routes, tariffs, taxes, infrastructure and just about anything else that they could turn their sharp minds to. It was three years after their commission, and five after moving to Whitebridge, that their daughter Rymara came into the world. Even as a baby, and a young girl, Rymara proved to be the opposite of her brother and many of the children around her. She was quiet, she kept herself out of trouble and showed little interest in anything except reading and other people. As her brother rough-housed with his friends, Rymara remained on the edges watching or with her parents learning.
By the age of seven her parents' clients all looked forward to seeing her, her generosity and sharp mind delighting many of them.
Throughout her early teens Rymara remained a blissfully well behaved daughter, rarely rebelling or ignoring the words of her parents. The few occasions that she did she had good reason and the even rarer occasions that she lost her temper were spectacular. Little did any of them realise that each time she lost her temper she tapped into the One Power, by accident. Her brother joined the militia and then left Manetheren to train with the armies of the Borderlands, wanting to be a man of action and not words, while Rymara stepped into the role of an administrator alongside her parents. They travelled throughout Manetheren, Saldaea, Andor, Altara and Illian working to strengthen trade relations, or build new ones where necessary, and study the infrastructure of other nations. Sharing their own thoughts, advice and technical specifications in an effort to strengthen Manetheren, both within their own borders and their relationships with the other members of the Dragon’s Compact at the behest of the council and the women’s circle of Whitebridge.
Things changed upon their return to Whitebridge, an Aes Sedai passing through discovered that not only could Rymara touch the source but that she had incredible potential even before her true strength with the One Power could even be guessed. The Sister, an Aes Sedai of the White Ajah, offered them little comfort but instead gave Rymara two days to wrap up her affairs before she would go to Tar Valon, one way or another. Her journey to the White Tower involved several stops along the way, notably in Edmond’s field, Maradon and Chachin before finally they made their journey to the White Tower. Along the way several other sisters joined them along with two other women who would go on to become novices. Rymara was not in any way prepared for what she would face, and discover, within the White Tower on her journey to becoming an Aes Sedai…
Life as a Novice left Rymara thankful for many things that previously annoyed her or she took for granted, the prime example being her stature. She soon found that drawing less attention to herself meant less gruelling work and more time to focus on developing her skills until she discovered the blocks between her and the Source, blocks which frustrated her and pushed her to her limits. She tried to get over them without drawing the attention of the Aes Sedai and when that failed she had to draw their attention, which was easier than she expected, until she finally got over the blocks and began to draw upon the One Power freely. Easily even. Facing the trial to become an Accepted pushed her even further as she faced her deepest and darkest fears, as she emerged from the final ring she could barely tell reality apart from the visions offered within which terrified her even more. She wanted nothing more than to give up until a sister of the Blue Ajah offered her counsel and comfort, albeit briefly.
Determined not to falter, ever again, Rymara embraced the life of an Accepted with a burning hunger for more. She set her heart upon the 3 oaths, upon becoming a full Sister and she had grand dreams of what she would do upon her ascension. She embraced every opportunity offered to her and advanced in leaps and bounds, first she spent six months with the Wise Ones in the Aiel waste learning from them. They tested her, pushed her and challenged her to tap into her gifts and when the six months ended she returned to the Tower with a heavy heart. Homesick. She threw herself into her studies with a fervour unfamiliar to her until the time finally came to face the final trial. She set her shoulders, held her head high and she emerged on the other side resolute.
An Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah.
Unfortunately, Rymara did not have time to get comfortable with her new place in the world nor could she return home before the Sitters had a task for her with the support of the Amyrlin seat. Rymara and six other sisters, a mix of Green and Yellow, were charged with travelling to Kandor’s border with the Blight where they would offer their aid to the forces in their struggles. Rymara was chosen for her strength and heart, at the behest of a familiar face who helped her face her first true trial, and so the contingent of Sisters and the eleven warders in tow made for Kandor. Upon her arrival Rymara quickly turned her attention to the supply lines, noting the poor infrastructure in place to keep the border fortifications and encampments supplied. Her sisters turned their attention to the more material matters while Rymara did everything in her power to improve conditions, making multiple trips between Chachin and the border. Upon returning for one such trip a scouting party requested the aid of an Aes Sedai for they wanted to plunge deep into the Blight, to try and map a safe path for a mission which would follow in their wake. Rymara volunteered and ventured out into the Blight with the grizzled soldiers, all the while curious for she had never truly seen the face of the enemy. The Shadow terrified her even more than she expected.
It quickly became apparent that their mission could not succeed and she challenged the commanding officer only once, quickly putting him in his place when he tried to argue with her. They had roamed too deep into the Blight on their mission, still only barely scratching the surface, and thus the attention of a Myrddraal and its Trollocs fell upon them. The fade did not face them directly, after all why should it when the party seemed completely unaware of it and two dozen trollocs could make easy work of the six strong party. As the beasts fell upon the party Rymara unleashed raging fire and summoned lightning from the heavens for the first time, smashing the beasts as her party began to withdraw and covering their escape as they carved their way to safety only for the Fade to fall upon them. A whirling dervish of darkness and fury, for every burst of flame or bolt of lightning Rymara summoned the creature slipped aside like a living shadow. It was only thanks to the intervention of the Warders, and their wards, that Rymara's party finally managed to fell the creature and for the first time in her short life she truly believed the tales of their deadliness.
She began to understand the battle they were fighting, even after the Dragon Reborn sealed the bore the battle continued.
Quickly she set about discovering the names of each and every scout they lost across each excursion, and those they did not lose, before journeying south where she began to offer comfort to the families who would never see their children again and those that would struggle on for as long as their children fought on the border. She quickly established a reputation as a generous, truly honest woman who held nothing back and cared deeply for the people. She helped the sick as much as possible, despite lacking any real experience or finesse with healing, and then began her journey south. A journey which she hoped would take her home but instead it drew her to Andor, to the courts and games of nobility. Her time in court was ultimately fruitful if frustrating, she quickly established a network of servants, young nobles and merchants who offered her information and they found her favour in return, struggling minor houses found they had information and resources while servants soon found their families were well cared for where once they struggled.
Every time she tried to return to Manetheren, to see if word of her brother had come or if parents were even still alive, she was drawn away and once more she found herself in the borderlands. Upon her travels she encountered one of the party which ventured into the Blight with her the first time and soon found that he had everything she wanted in a Warder, she soon discovered that his mother had benefited greatly from her aid.. She spent three weeks tending to the healed, helping them recover physically and psychologically, before she faced Trollocs once more within the Blight.
As she tended to the wounded with her new Warder, Baz, shadowing her, Rymara received a missive from the White Tower. A summons from one of the sitters requesting her return to the Tower. Commanded to attend a debriefing with her sisters to pass on what she learned from her excursions into the Blight. At first, Rymara considered defying the summons in order to continue offering aid to the people of the Borderlands but ultimately returning to Tar Valon was an opportunity to gather more support, perhaps even another warder, for the battle to come. The journey to the White Tower was not an easy one, she was exhausted and struggling to grow accustomed to the presence of Baz in her mind but ultimately they came to rest at an inn on the road where they met a gleeman, a gleeman who showed that he was not only a talented entertainer but a warrior and that he, like Baz and Rymara, sought to protect people. Rymara, initially mistaken for simply a noble by the innkeep and his patrons, approached the Gleeman seeking to earn his trust and make enquiries. Soon he opened up, about his history with the tower and the loss of someone important to him, and Rymara saw an opportunity. To her surprise Baz, though reluctant, seemed to agree with her and so she approached the Gleeman with an offer of purpose; she asked him to travel with her and eventually accept the Gaidin bond. Just before they crossed into Tar Valon he accepted and so Rymara sealed the bond, forcing herself to once again grow used to a new bond with a new man. The emotions, the constant presence…
And so with that her mission came to an end. Rymara returned to Tar Valon for the first time since swearing her oaths, exhausted and homesick. She had proven herself not only to be a resourceful Aes Sedai but an intelligent woman, a potentially talented tactician and she'd earned the title Dreadbane...
