The Bore

During Tarmon Gai'don, the Bore was opened completely when Logain broke the remaining seals. Rand al'Thor, linked through Callandor with Nynaeve al'Meara, Moiraine Damodred, and Moridin, sealed the Bore as though it had never happened by using both halves of the One Power to recreate the Dark One's prison anew. A shield made of the True Power protected the One Power from the Dark One's backlash. After this event, the Dark One could no longer touch the world directly.

The Second Boring occured in 53 FA after the escape of Alviarin Freidhen and Atal Mishraile orchestrated by Ayanna Sarat and Zamira Dagaron. Thirteen channelers formed a circle led by Moghedien in an attempt to free the Dark One once more. They did this on the Seanchan continent where the Blight still clung to part of the land. Afterwards, only Moghedien, Atal, and the Seanchan darkfriends remained, the others returned to the Westlands.

The place where the pattern is thinnest is now on the Seanchan continent. The corruption seems to be happening both more slowly and more quickly this time. In just thirty years it spread on the Westland continent to where it had been before Tarmon Gai'don.

Though things have corrupted more quickly this time, they have corrupted less completely. There are still pockets of semi hospitable lands along the edge of the blight border. Parts of the Blight are also accessible in Tel'aran'rhiod, though they are at least, if not more, dangerous there than in the waking world.
